Myth Summary

Myths, have the explanation of natural phenomenons like hurricanes, tsunamis, and blizzards. People from the past had wondered about the facts of earth, so they created myths to explain their curiosity. These myths, contain creators, void of nothing, disappointments of gods and many more because myths are connected to the earth's crisis.
Themes of creators, disappointments and void are at the centre of many creation myths which is unusual because their ways of life and beliefs are so different. To start, in every myth, there are creators which are known as Gods. In myths of Mayans and Chinese, there were one to two creators that constructed the earth. The earth didn't naturally emerge out of the darkness itself. It was made by either separating the Sky and Land, or by the imaginations of the creators. Most creators are known as God. In the Mayan myths, there were two creators who created the world with their thought but in the Chinese myths, Phan Ku, the creator carved the world with a chisel. The creators had different ways of making the earth but their intentions were all the same.
Secondly, myths have disappointments, sadness or pain. Tepez, and Gucumatz, the creators of the Mayan myths, tried to make beings who praised them for their work. Sadly, they failed each try. The creators tried to get praised from animal, make people out of clay and wood, but they were failures. With anger and misery, they flooded the earth so that the failures were cleansed out of the pure world. I believe every myths have these kinds of disappointments from the Gods which could cause war, despair and losses.
Lastly, many myths started out with nothing or just void, surrounded by the chaos. Earth didn't just emerge from the darkness. The people had the theory that it was created by something. The Gods or the Creators emerged, or were born from the swirling mass of void and chaos. The Chinese creator Phan Ku, emerged out of the cosmic egg, and the egyptian God Atum, created himself from the waters of Chaos named Nu. The people from the past had that theory that the world started with nothing which is fascinating since their imaginations were creative. This is the proof that many myths started with space.
Myths tell us about the beginning of the earth and the wonders of sun, moon along with the stars. However, we will still continue to have curiosity as the generations go on.

My Bag

Filling the bag with ten items and objects was what I did to represent myself. Those ten objects, have an exceptional relationship with me and very powerful bonds. They help me in stress, right choices, and they give me courage to do things. These ten objects aren't just normal. They are like me. They express my personality and feelings so that people can understand me. Here are the important objects, that I chose.

1. My Mechanical Pencil
Mechanical pencils are just an upgraded level from a pencil. I had received one special mechanical pencil from my brother, Soon Jae. Have you ever seen a brother like that? While it was summer vacation, I was in Korea working on some summer homework and I accidentally used my brother's pencil because the pencil had been on the table for days. It was simply designed, clear, and pleasant to utilize. I loved the style of it, and the color because I admire the color, white. Before I arrived to Malaysia, my brother handed me his own mechanical pencil to me and said to use it. I was amazed to hear that. Did he know that I liked the pencil? That is still a mystery to be solved. When he gave it, I asked him if it was really ok for my brother. My brother simply answered "Take it, it's yours now." What a short response. So, when I use this pencil, I always recall my brother who is in University of Pennsylvania, UPENN. It offers me the courage to learn and forces me to follow up the stairs towards my future.

2. Milo
Until now, I drunk Milo, and it has been approximately seven years. In total, this is my eighth year of drinking Milo. Well, I began to drink Milo when I was Five years old. Somehow, I never got weary of it and it is one of my top habits. Milo is just an ordinary old chocolate milk and I have no clue why it is one of my likings. My mom bought Milo for me when I was at the age of five, for me to drink. I drank it merrily since I only had drunk milk before. In my opinion, I think I was delighted in the taste of the Milo so it made me hesitate to quit it. Everyone gets astonished when I describe this story to them about how long I drank it. I don't think Milo isn't just a plain drink for me. I believe it is unique because it reminds me about my past when I had travelled to many places like Thailand, Penang, Tioman, and Langkawi. Milo, is something that makes me feel blissful as I drink it. Since it has all my memories of every joyful moments.

3. Dog food
Kerry, my charming dog has always been a little trouble maker. He is an adorable, little puppy but makes a lot of small and big troubles in our house. Kerry is a Yorkshire terrier, and he is almost 1 year old. We bought him when my brother went to University because my father thought that we would feel lonesome. My father has a job in Indonesia, and my brother is in America studying in University. So, in our empty, wide home, there are only two females left which are me and my mother. So, our puppy is like our guardian because he is the only male in this house right now. I loved dogs when I was young, and it was one of my dreams to breed one. In my opinion, a miracle happened to us so that we could live somewhat cheerfully.

4. Guylian Chocolate
Guylian is a chocolate which is originated from Belgium, and one of the chocolates that really is to my likings. I first ate this chocolate when my father went on a business trip to another country. I simply loved the taste of the chocolate because it was not dark and neither too sweet. It contained the perfect taste that anyone could eat. So, from that moment, I started to crave for Guylian chocolates. It has been some years since I haven't eaten it. Sometimes, if my father comes from Korea, he buys me the Guylian Chocolate which is in a small box. How I wish to taste it again.

5. Ipod
What I have is an Ipod from my brother once again. My brother offered this to me when I was in fifth grade. This was the first generation of the apple Ipods, and he made his way to buy a new one after handing his old ipod to me. A miracle occurred. I never really wished to get one, but it just grew legs and approached to me. Wow. That is what I could only speak back then. This Ipod is very exceptional to me since it has all the songs I love. Whenever I listen to those songs, it calms me if I have a lot of stress or misery. I prefer to hear to silent, sad songs or ballads. I dislike listening to rock, heavy metal, and more noisy things. Usually, ballads and sad songs symbolize my mood and solves my concerns so, my Ipod is very useful. Usually when I am happy, I listen to pop songs. I hear varieties of music everyday because of my mood. My brother is like my Ipod, and that is why my Ipod can serene my stress.

6. Lego Piece
When I was young, I always constructed lego with my brother. My brother was outstanding at reading the instructions and building the objects with lego. I envied him even though I did nothing at watched. I couldn't erect those objects like planes, rockets, castles, and more. My mom always used to nag me that most girls would play with barbies, and dolls like teddy bears but I only entertained myself with lego. I always came behind my brother. Was that an instinct? I never left my brother's side because he was a family member whom I could rely on. He always built me something with lego for me to play with throughout the day. Maybe I was a little bit boyish. The lego piece represents how I really behaved and my personality.

7. Running Shoes
Running is one of my favorite sports. In my old school Alice Smith, the P.E teacher was strict and fierce. (That was what I thought) She always instructed us to jog around the gym at least one lap for warm up. We were just First graders! Then, we would do fun activities like tag, catching the ball, and lots more. I think that was when I started to develop the speed of running. At recess, I was ran along with a boy named Michael. Every time we met, he asked me to run and judge who was the fastest. So we sprinted everyday, amused ourselves with tag, and ran again. He was my first best friend. I should have thanked him because he granted me the chance or dream, to run. When I moved to ISKL, I participated in ISAKL track meets, and ran as a representative. My Running shoes give me the bravery of running, and the dream, just like Michael.

8. Recorder
It was my first step into playing instruments when I started to play the recorder. The recorder was easy to play. We just had to cover the holes with our fingers and blow into the recorder. Then, a note would come out. Recorder was play to fun since I could make a pure note out of it. Now, I play the flute but most of the experience comes from the recorder. Most of the fingerings of the recorder are similar to the flute's fingerings. I started to play the recorder in third grade, and I started my flute in fifth grade. I kept the recorder until now, and I play when I'm bored. The interesting fact is that if I play the recorder, my puppy comes and sits down to listen to it. He never does that to the flute but only the recorder. What a strange fact. So, if it wasn't for the recorder, I wouldn't be able to play the instrument right now.

9. ES Track Meet Ribbon, MS Track Meet Medal
I earned the Ribbon the medal for running. In elementary, I always earned the first place ribbon. In 50m, 100m, and 200m, I got the first place ribbon. On that day, I felt proud of myself. It gives me the pride when I see this. Last year in sixth grade, I earned a silver medal for 100m Running. There was a track meet for the people who participated in the Track and Field activity,My friend Rita, and I went there and ran together in the 100m. Nikita was known as the fastest runner and she received the gold medal. I received the silver medal, and Rita received the bronze medal. I still felt happy because I was able to make it in the top three fast runners. Thatalso gives me the pride of running.

10. Hamster Doll
This doll isn't a hamster but it looked too similar, so I called it the Hamster. Since I was in second grade, I started to keep a hamster. It was my first pet. I have kept 15 hamsters in total. After each one died, we bought a new one, and again. There was one special hamster that I received in fifth grade. In fifth grade, our class' hamster ha five babies. The teacher gave it to me because my mother knew how to take care of hamsters when they had babies. My mom had seen and experienced it before. The five babies grew up to a healthy little toddler, and it was fun watching them grow. The moment when they opened their eyes was when we felt happy. My teacher gave two hamsters to me as a present. I kept them well, since I've seen them grow altogether but a year later, they both died. They were my favorite hamsters, and they died. Sadness reached my heart because it felt as if I lost the memories of fifth grade. So, that doll, represents my favorite hamsters from fifth grade.

These ten objects have certain bonds with me, and they are special like a family. Many people can represent themselves as something else, but this is how I describe myself altogether. Yes, this is me. My personality is all written in those paragraphs and those show myself. What I have learned today is that items, that are really precious to you, is something that represents us.

My name

Eugenia, is my name. Eugenia can sound a little bit bizarre and difficult to pronounce but in reality, it means something powerful. My name is a thin spider's web, where you can follow, to get to the centre of it so that we can see the true meaning. Our names can contain the hearts of the sky. Every name has it's own meaning and stands strongly on itself. Eugenia, was originated from Greek, and the form of the name is Eugenius which means "Of noble descent". My surname is Kwon, so if I connect it, it will significance "Kwon's noble descent." which makes it admiring to read. That name, was made by my father. He had related it to my korean name which is You Jin so that people wouldn't get bewildered with my korean name, and english name. Somehow, in the hospital, my mother heard that Eugenia, was a name of a princess. So, I found that the princess was the daughter of Phillips II in Spain but not only that but my name also comes from a plant. This plant comes from the myrtle family. Its' berries are used to make jam, tarts, and jelly and my name, just sounds like a jelly which suits me. Jellies are soft, neatly made, and bouncy. It is similar to my personality. I can be soft like the flow of water, neat like the mountains, and sometimes selfish too. Sometimes, when my mood is cheerful, I can have a soft, calm personality but if my mood is gloomy, there could be some unpleasant news. I can bounce out the argument that someone had with me with great strength, and push back the rage to them. If we press it and leave it, it bounces out. My personality can be a jelly which is from my name Be careful because you might get bounced out if you lean on me!
My korean name comes from the old korean characters which are related to chinese and japanese characters. The "You" means to pile up, and "Jin" means trust. If we connect them into a sentence, it will mean to pile up beliefs and trustworthy deeds. I feel proud of that name. Whenever I hear it, it gives me hope and the courage to myself. If I have a lot of stress, I would repeat my name, until it calms me down from the pressure. My father once tried to make my name, related to my brother, Soon Jae. The name Soon Jae, was chosen by my maternal grandfather who got it from a specialist who deals with the name for the children. His name had to start with Soon because of the relation to the surname, Kwon. Every person has a different name that starts with a korean character but my brother had to begin with Soon. This is a particular, strict rule. We have to follow it because it is how we decide a name for a child in Korea. How complicating! For me, I didn't really have to follow the rule because girls are allowed to choose against it, but the boys must do it. My father wanted my name to be Soon-Hee or Soon-Ju because of the surname rule, but my mom strongly disagreed because it wasn't a name that suited me and I of course, disagree too. So, my father spent a few days of his own life for me. He looked into the books of old korean characters to match up my name, You Jin. Well, I should really thank my father for searching all those books to make up a trusted name for me. Piling up beliefs and trustworthy deeds is what I should become as a person.

The surname of mine is the Korean character, Kwon. This surname, comes from the Andong Kwon Clan. This Clan, was founded by a nobleman named Kim Shin, who helped Wang Gon, who was the founder of the Goryeo kingdom, which is now our country, Korea. With Kim Shin's help, he became the first king. The new king gave Kim Shin a new name which was Kwon and it meant "Authority or Power." However, the Andong Kwon clan’s original surname used to be Hun and the surname Hun was chosen for the Goryeo king's surname in 1197. To prevent having people use the king’s surname, the Hun family were forced to change their surnames to Kwon. The Clan's hope for receiving their original surname Hun, was a hope of a flea. That is the history of the surname, Kwon.
